over 4 years ago – Wed, Dec 04, 2019 at 09:49:54 PM

Hi everyone.

The SCORKL has officially arrived!

2,900 of the 3,011 orders have now been delivered. Those remaining un-delivered orders may take another few weeks to resolve but for all intents and purposes, I think it’s now safe to say that the SCORKL has officially arrived!

I’m so happy. It is a dream come true. Thank you all so much. WE DID IT!

I’m super keen to hear everyone’s feedback. If you have a spare five minutes, please answer a few questions for me regarding what you think about your products HERE.

New website

I’ve just released a new website at https://scorkl.com/. I’d love to hear your feedback on the website too please if you don’t mind having a play around with it and answering a few short questions for me HERE? Thanks!

“Soft” launch

I want to wait until all of you have had enough opportunity to use your SCORKLs before properly launching the product to the public next year. That way I’ll hopefully be able to use your feedback to make any helpful improvements.

However, now that the first batch of orders has been delivered and the new website is live, I have started taking public orders for the first time during a “soft” launch. Please help me spread the word today by sharing this Facebook video:

https://www.facebook.com/Scorkl/videos/2532776907006342/

Any new orders received before December 10 will be delivered before Christmas.

Defective parts

As mentioned in previous updates, a number of customers have unfortunately accidentally damaged the refill port on the regulator because they have not unscrewed the bleed screw on the Hand Pump (or depressed the bleed button on the scuba tank refill adapter) before detaching the SCORKL after filling. Please remember to read your User Manual, and watch the Instructional Videos, carefully before using your SCORKL for the first time.

For any enquiries about defective parts, please send an email to [email protected] with accompanying photos and/or videos to help explain and I will endeavor to resolve.

Thank you!

The SCORKL story is far from over but I’m so proud that we’ve finally reached the delivery milestone. Thank you so much for your patience and support. I really hope you like what you received.

I look forward to staying in contact over the next couple of months and years ahead and can’t wait to hear and see stories of your SCORKL days out!

Sincerely,

David

Fri Nov 1 '19 Announcement
over 4 years ago – Fri, Nov 01, 2019 at 10:08:45 PM

Hi everyone.

Delivery update

So far 1,200 deliveries have been made across the following regions:

As you can see, deliveries to my European customers haven’t started yet. Those containers have arrived in port but still need to process through customs. They should hopefully start delivering in the second week of November.

Delivery photos/videos

Please keep sending me your photos and feedback either by email or my social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat). I’ve shared a few at the end of this update for you all to see.

Instructional videos

I’ve put together a few instructional videos for your reference here:

How to assemble and disassemble your SCORKL

How to assemble your Hand Pump

How to fill from your Hand Pump

How to fill from a SCUBA Tank

How to fill from a compressor

How to use your SCORKL - Safety Video

How to use your SCORKL

How to care for your SCORKL post dive

How to pack your SCORKL for airline travel

Please note that these videos are NOT substitutes for the product User Manuals which you must read and understand in full. Those instructional videos are just complementary visual guides.

Defective parts

By and large the orders have so far arrived and functioned in excellent condition thankfully. A few people have had issues with the refill port on the regulator though, usually as a result of not unscrewing the Hand Pump Bleed Screw before disconnecting the SCORKL after filling, or screwing the Filter Housing in too tight. Please see the Hand Pump User Manual and Instructional Video above for further explanation to avoid damaging that part.

For any other defective parts that need to be replaced, please contact me at [email protected] with an explanation and photos and I will do my best to rectify. Keep in mind however that I won’t be able to send out replacement parts for a couple of months sorry. I need to focus on managing these 3,000 deliveries first before being able to send out another batch.

Communications

My apologies if I don’t reply to your inquiries immediately. It’s a very busy time at the moment trying to solve the many delivery issues as they pop up. I’ll always get back to you eventually though so thanks as always for your patience.

I’m really looking forward to the next update when I can hopefully say that the European orders are being delivered too!

Sincerely,

David

Hi everyone

First 300 orders delivered!

The first 300 SCORKL orders have now been delivered!

Here is @dibsster unboxing his:

Here is @mohitjet in India receiving his:

This cool photo of the Buddy Pack C all kitted up is from @Yuki_nagahori in Japan:

Tim Wilson in New Zealand with two SCORKL PROs, a Pump, a Retractor (and a Case not pictured):

I'm super keen to see plenty more photos and videos from everyone as you receive your orders so please send them through to me! Either via Instagram (@scorkl), email ([email protected]) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/scorkl). I'd love to hear any feedback you have too.

The following table shows where deliveries have occurred so far:

As you can see, they are all “Rest of the World” orders (orders going to countries outside of the USA, Australia, Europe and Canada). Those orders arrived earlier since they went via air freight. 225 more Rest of the World orders are still to be delivered but they hopefully be shouldn’t be too far off arriving.

Remaining 2,800 orders on their way

The remaining orders going via sea freight to the USA, Australia, Europe and Canada are on their way.

Australia

The Australian container arrived in Sydney on 18 October and was processed through my warehouse yesterday. They will be delivered over the next week or so via Australia Post, or Hunter Express for anyone that ordered a case. I’ll send my Australian customers a Tracking Number today in a separate email from [email protected] so look out for that. Your deliveries should hopefully arrive within the next week.

USA, Canada and Europe orders

The USA and Canada containers arrived in Long Beach, California and Vancouver, British Columbia on 21 October. The Europe containers are scheduled to arrive in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on 27 October. All those containers will still need to get processed through customs and my warehouse. Only after they process successfully will I be able to provide Tracking Numbers. Delivery is still a few weeks away but I will keep you updated.

How to Use your SCORKL

The User Manuals included with the SCORKL and Hand Pump contain all the information you need to be able to use your products safely and and easily. Please make sure you read them closely. I will also be releasing a few short videos soon which help explain the key topics.

Notwithstanding that it is essential that you familiarise yourself with the User Manual, especially with respect to the Safety warnings, please be aware that:

- You must never hold your breath when using your SCORKL, especially during ascent. You must also never ascend rapidly. Holding your breath during ascent, or ascending rapidly, can lead to pulmonary barotrauma (also called "lung over-expansion" injuries), which can result in serious injury or death.

- When filling your SCORKL from either a scuba tank or the SCORKL Hand Pump, you must depressurise the filling connections BEFORE disconnecting the SCORKL (either by depressing the purge button on the scuba tank refill adapter, or un-screwing the bleed screw on the hand pump). Failure to do so may cause damage to the seals and o-rings of the SCORKL refill port. Some customers have unfortunately already damaged their products in this way.

Remember that the SCORKL is not a toy, it is a highly engineered piece of equipment that needs to be used appropriately and cared for. There are potentially life-threatening risks associated with using the SCORKL, and breathing underwater, that you need to be aware of and take steps to avoid.

Social Media Accounts, Email Mail-outs

The SCORKL social media accounts have pretty much been inactive since the launch campaign two years ago but I'll be updating them very soon to start providing extra content that you will hopefully find very interesting. Please follow them all here in anticipation of that material getting released:

Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat

Since the delivery schedule above is slightly different for different countries, it will make more sense for me to send emails out to various segments of customers, rather than posting the same information to everyone in a project update like this one. Please make sure you have added [email protected] to your contact list, otherwise you may miss your delivery tracking number when I email it to you.

Ongoing communications

As always, I will be doing my best to answer any questions you may have as soon as I can. It will be a very busy period for me managing the delivery of the orders over the next few weeks so please be patient. I always get back to everyone eventually.

We're almost there!

It was a bit of an emotional moment when I received a glowing note from Gratton McCallum on October 16 in New Zealand to say that he'd received his order, the first delivery ever. There's still obviously many more orders that need to be delivered before we can pop out the champagne, but hopefully we'll be in that position soon!

Thanks as always for your patience and support.

Wed Sep 25 '19 Announcement
over 4 years ago – Wed, Sep 25, 2019 at 01:27:43 AM

Hi everyone.

Thank you very much for confirming your orders and shipping details before the lock-down date of September 14. Some people needed a few extra days to sort out payment issues etc. but I can now say that the order list details for delivery are officially LOCKED as of September 19.

Now that 3,300 orders, made up of around 10,000 items, have been LOCKED we have begun the process of individually kitting, labelling and preparing each order for shipment. You can see what the kitting and labelling process looks like for a typical Buddy Pack B order (2 x SCORKLs, 1 x Hand Pump) here:

Kitting a typical Buddy Pack B order

It will take most of this week to kit and label those 3,300 orders.

The sea freight orders (those going to USA, Europe, Canada and Australia), which make up around 85% of all orders, are scheduled to hopefully be loaded into shipping containers by the end of this week (30 September). We will be sending three full 40ft containers to the USA, three full 40ft containers to Europe, one full 20ft container to Canada and one full extra-large 40ft container to Australia.

It will take those containers 3 – 6 weeks to arrive at their ports of destination and another week or two for the individual orders to be delivered to you domestically after they arrive. I’ll be able to provide you with tracking numbers but only after the containers are received and processed in the USA/EU/CA/AUS.

The direct-shipping orders (those going to all the other countries outside of USA, Europe, Canada and Australia) will be sent in the second week of October. They move by air freight so will take around two weeks to arrive once they have been sent.

As much as I’d like to be able to give you firm arrival dates that’s unfortunately impossible right now since there are too many variables. Some orders (probably those to Australia and the direct-shipping orders) may arrive before the end of October, while some orders (probably those to the USA, Europe and Canada) may arrive during November. Those dates depend on the containers passing seamlessly through customs at each port which is not a certainty since this is our first time delivering to each. However, I’ll keep you updated every couple of weeks on the status of all.

We’ve been pretty lucky so far on the logistics side of things so fingers crossed our run of luck continues.

Unconfirmed orders

As forewarned, if you didn’t make the September 14 order-confirmation cut-off date you will not receive your order in this delivery I’m afraid. My focus will be on making sure the 3,300 confirmed orders get delivered perfectly first, then I’ll be able to organize the shipment of the remaining orders later on in the year as they eventually get confirmed. About 200 of the 3,500 orders are in this situation (despite my best efforts to contact everyone to ask them to confirm!).

Ongoing communications

As always, feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions. I always get around to answering everyone’s questions eventually.

Thanks as always for your support and patience.

Sincerely,

David

Thu Aug 29 '19 Announcement

Hi everyone.

We’ve had a fantastic response rate to everyone confirming their orders thank you! So far around 75% of the 1,449 orders have been confirmed. I’ll need to wait another week or so for the other stragglers but having so many confirmed already means I can officially lock in September 15 as the day I will start the shipping process.

For the 75% of you that have already confirmed your order details for me, I will lock your orders down today. Please be aware that this means your credit card will be charged if you added any Add-ons (or had to pay VAT if your address was in the EU), and you will no longer be able to change your shipping address or order.

For those of you who haven’t yet confirmed your order details via the Backerkit link I sent you, please make sure you do so BEFORE September 14. If you haven’t confirmed your order before September 14, I will not be able to ship your order to you! If you haven’t confirmed your order yet because you need assistance, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] and I will do my best to assist.

Assembly of items into packaging

In preparation for shipping from September 15, the 70,000 items received in my warehouse are currently being assembled into the final packaging.

We’re assembling the parts into the packaging at a rate of approximately 150 packages/hr. This means that the 12,000 packages (8,000 SCORKL / SCORKL PRO + 4,000 Pumps) will take around 10 business days (two weeks) to finish. That’s 12,000 packages / 150 per hr = 80 hours / 8 hr days = 10 days. As of today we’ve already completed 70% of the 12,000.

Once we have the final, locked-down order list for all 100% of you on September 15, we will be able to start kitting all the orders (i.e. putting the different types of Packs together), labelling them, and sending them out!

Can't wait to do that soon!

David

P.S. Just in case you missed the Shipping Now and Thank You videos in the last update, I’ve included them again below
